Dave Cadwell of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on September 28, 2025 at age 56. A Summerville boy who came back to raise his own there, Dave graduated from The Citadel in 1991 with a degree in Business Administration and built a career as a project manager. Predeceased by his wife Amy, Dave poured himself into raising their sons Shepard and Harmon — and into the youth baseball teams that became their second family. He is survived by Shepard, Harmon, his sister Jill, and his mother Julia. A GoFundMe established for the boys remains active.

Martianez VanChin'O Rorie passed away on September 30, 2024, at age 56. Born in Monroe, North Carolina and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, Martianez earned his BA from The Citadel and an MBA from the University of Tennessee, building an early career at Bank of America and Merck. He found his calling in real estate, where his obituary noted he "never met a stranger" and saw home ownership as a path to what he called "kingdom building." His faith was the center of his life. He is survived by his wife Robbee, his son Malakhi, and his sisters Phillipia and Shelly.

Tim Olson of Melbourne, Florida, passed away on August 5, 2024, at age 66, with his wife Suzanne by his side. Tim came to The Citadel the long way: six years in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear-power-plant welder aboard the USS Hunley at Charleston Naval Station, then an associate's degree at Trident Tech, then The Citadel — where he earned his BS in Civil Engineering in 1991, identifiable on any campus by the blue Citadel shirts and hoodies he wore proudly. His engineering career left fingerprints across the Southeast, from the I-95 and I-4 Interchanges to the Goethals Bridge replacement. But it was the Honor Flight program that defined his last fourteen years: as a founding member and Operations Director of the Space Coast Honor Flight Hub, Tim took over 1,600 veterans to Washington to see their memorials. He is survived by Suzanne, his wife of 30 years.

Raymond Mazyck Jr. of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on June 17, 2024 at age 56. A standout running back at Charleston's Gordon H. Garrett High School, Raymond earned a football scholarship to The Citadel and distinguished himself on the field at Johnson Hagood. After graduation he joined PepsiCo, managing stores in Charlotte and Atlanta before relocating to Los Angeles, where he later founded his own therapeutic massage practice. His memorial service was held at Summerall Chapel.

Born in Concord, New Hampshire, Mark earned a track scholarship to The Citadel after breaking his Maine high school 110-hurdles record, and matriculated into the Mighty O in August 1987. After graduation he earned a Master's in Criminal Justice from USC and built a career as a Marine Risk Engineer, recognized as an expert witness in marine and property investigations. He is survived by his sons Thomas and Noah, his parents, and his brother Christopher.

Craig Allen Coker of Lugoff, South Carolina, passed away on December 26, 2023 at age 54, surrounded by family. Born in Patchogue, New York, Craig graduated from The Citadel in 1991 with a degree in Civil Engineering and later returned to serve on The Citadel Alumni Association board — one of those classmates who never really left. He was an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 316, helped found Venture Crew Unit 316, and gave his time generously to the boys in his community. Craig is survived by his wife of 31 years, Melissa, and their four children: Ryan, Nathaniel, Emma, and Caroline. Memorial donations went to the Citadel Alumni Association.

Ray Boyce graduated with Charlie Company in 1991 and spent his career on the road, working for some of the largest industrial companies in the country across the U.S. and Mexico — "one of the best in his field, and he collected friends everywhere he traveled." In 2005 he came home to be near his mother and met his wife Lisa. He named his boat Ruthless because her middle name was Ruth and she wouldn't set foot on it. He is survived by Lisa, his mother Elaine, and his brother Michael. Memorial donations went to the Citadel Ring Fund — his charity of choice.

Lieutenant Colonel James R. "Jay" Beam Jr., USAF (Retired), of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on September 27, 2018 at age 49 after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Jay earned his BS in Civil Engineering from The Citadel in 1991 and was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force the following year. Over a 23-year career he served as a Civil Engineer at every level — base, command, and joint — including a 1993 deployment to Mogadishu in support of Operation Restore Hope. After retiring in 2014 he came home to The Citadel as Director of Facilities and Operations and, in 2016, was promoted to Associate Vice President for Facilities and Engineering, leading the team that takes care of the campus and the Corps. He is survived by his wife Mandy and their children Bailey and Averey.

Born in Omaha, Brandon enlisted in the 82nd Airborne after Citadel and graduated first in his Officer Candidate School class. His Army career took him through Spanish Language School, Intelligence School, Airborne, Jumpmaster, Ranger School, and Special Forces Pre-qualification. After ten years of service he joined Johnson & Johnson, ultimately serving as Regional Business Director for Mentor Worldwide. He is survived by his wife Cliona and daughters Kathryn and Anna.

Lieutenant Colonel William C. Downer, U.S. Army, of Gig Harbor, Washington, died on July 19, 2011, at age 42. Bill was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry from The Citadel in August 1991 and went on to serve in Haiti, the Philippines, and multiple combat tours in Iraq with Special Forces and EOD units. His decorations include the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters, three Meritorious Service Medals, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with five campaign stars, the Ranger Tab, and the Master EOD Badge. As his classmate Lou Schwartz remembered: "I guess he was always destined to be a warrior." He is survived by his wife Suzanne.

Russell Wheeler Powell passed away on June 30, 2008 at age 40. A 1991 Citadel graduate from Tango Company, Russell was an entrepreneur — "before I knew how to spell the word," classmate Howard Barnard remembered, recalling the t-shirt printing operation Russell ran out of his barracks room with Brian Partridge. After Citadel he built a string of businesses across telecom, manufacturing, and construction, including founding Trivergent/NuVox. He is survived by his wife Caroline, sons Coleman and Wesley, and daughter Madison.

He is survived by his parents Derwin and Barbara, his sisters Ingrid and Amy, and his fiancée Christine Condon.

Captain William D. Hoyt, U.S. Army, of Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, died on active duty in 2005 at age 35. Bill came up through Echo Company and played for the Citadel rugby club. As his classmate Bob Gawler remembered: "He had one of those personalities that spanned distances, and you were always glad to see him. I miss him. He was a good soul." Richard Johanson recalled three weeks at Airborne School the summer before senior year, and "Bill's grin and infectious laugh" that he will always remember. He is survived by his wife Shannon and sons Drew and Kyle.

Matt Deville passed away in a motorcycle accident in 1992, less than a year after graduation. His Band Company roommate John Light remembered him this way: "Matt was my roommate Junior Year. I had just returned to The Citadel as a cadet from serving in the Army, and Matt brought me up-to-speed on all the changes that had taken place. Matt happened to live not far from me in Springfield, Virginia, and I met his parents on a number of occasions. Matt is missed."

Brian Partridge died in a small-plane crash over Georgia in 1991, only months after graduation, alongside classmate David Cook. A walk-on for the Citadel basketball team, Brian was a sharpshooter on the court and "a teetotaler by faith" with an infectious laugh, his classmate Gantt Folline remembered, "his lively spirit and enthusiasm I shall not forget in this lifetime." Howard Barnard recalled the t-shirt printing operation Brian ran out of his barracks room with Russell Powell — "entrepreneurs before I knew how to spell the word."
Bradford Gates entered The Citadel with the Class of 1991 and died in 1988, before he could walk at commencement with his classmates. The class remembers him as one of their own.
